Hi - my first ever post after many years of appreciating reading other people’s!
I have a pms symptom that not only drives me a little crazy, but whenever I try to research/google it to see if other’s share my feeling - I can’t match any results. So here goes:
When I was younger, this sensation which I have re named ‘The Ick’ - would happen literally the day of or day before my period showed up. It would make me sit up and pay attention to say ‘ah, my period is coming’
Now, it can come on as early as 2dpo and lingers like a toad. When I feel it - I pretty much know I’m not pregnant….even though I’m so early in the luteal phase. So it makes a tww pretty crap when the ick starts early. Disclaimer - I did feel a tiny bit of ick on a cycle where I was pregnant (from ivf) but it was only mild and brief.. Normally, the ick is full on - it’s distracting, unpleasant and ultimately gets me down.
Here’s my best attempt to describe it:
It’s like a warm wash through my body - feeling like it radiates from the tummy area (but not in my actually stomach…more like my liver??) and can almost be felt through the whole body, like it’s in my bloodstream. Of course google comes back with ‘hot flush’ It’s not that. The heat is like a chemically sensation that has been released into my bloodstream. It doesn’t make me feel overheated like a flush. It’s not cramping or painful, but it’s unpleasant - hence the ick description.
There is occasionally a background queasiness (not the same as nauseous from the tummy and feeling you might be sick etc)
Basic understanding of hormones in the menstrual cycle would tell me it’s something to do with progesterone/oestrogen levels post ovulation. My cycles are fairly regular and I feel fine before and during ovulation.
I’ve had a very tough few years with recurrent pregnancy loss - my mental health has been compromised hugely. I appreciate that me being older may mean a shift in pms but this feels like I’m the only one experiencing something that literally makes me feel I’m out of the running almost immediately after ovulating.
Just to know someone else identifies in any way or shed any light/suggestions.
Im at a point where I’ll do anything to help ease this symptom.
Thanks so much
