Birth Control causing dry vagina

Addy1992 · 21/08/2022 11:01

Hello,
I'm just about to finish my 3rd month of birth control. I haven't taken it for 5 years.
About a little over 1 week ago, my vagina has started getting SO dry, itchy and burning. I went to my doctor and they screened for STIs and all was negative.
Has anyone experienced this?

Yes I had this after starting the mini pill

Ask your Gp to prescribe Ovestin or Vagifem. In fact I think you can get Ovestin without prescription now. You can also buy Replens which is hormone free from Amazon. The progesterone in the mini pill - without the added oestrogen in the combined pill - can cause a drop in oestrogen which can cause the dryness.

@Afterfire I'm on the combination pill- Yasmin. Im dying!
@Fuzzyduckduckyfuzz how long did it take for your symptoms to go away?

I went to the gp initially thinking thrush and was treated for that. This went on for months and I ended up with urethritis which was agony. until I spoke to a locum and he suggested trying a different pill. I was on desogestrol the one with a 12 hour window and he switched me to norgestron which is a 3 hour one. He also prescribed ovestin as pp said. It took a while but it started to settle and touch wood it doesn't happen often now but I use the ovestin as needed. Also I get flare ups if I use anything other than water down there now

@Fuzzyduckduckyfuzz thanks! That's interesting to know. Birth Control can cause lots of upset! I wish there was a male version. I feel like GPs ars sometimes dismissive to birth control symptoms
