DSD periods

Hello

DSD 11 is with us this week. She has started her periods this morning.

I was at work and DH messaged to ask where everything was etc. Luckily I'd already had a chat with DSD in anticipation of this day so she knew where I kept sanitary towels etc.

She doesn't so far seem phased which is great. This may change in the coming months if it gets heavier and more painful.

She is being assessed for ASD and doesn't cope well with pain. But we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

I'm wondering whether period pants might suit her better? She struggles with personal hygiene if not constantly prompted and I'm worried pads might be a hassle.

Could anyone recommend any periods pants that would fit an 11 year old? Thanks!!

Modibodi do a teenage range, I think it’s called RED.

My DSD likes the Primark ones. Reasonably priced and comfy.

Get her to try lots of different things over coming months/year. Let her try it all out and continue with things like tampons and moon ups once she’s ready for that.
my mum bought me one type of thing. That was it. A dictate that I was to use that. Ok, this is years ago but I didn’t realise I didn’t need to wear a pad with an elastic belt until I was 15/16 (I started age 10).

girls need parents who will let them experiment with what works. And that might even be different things for mouthing at home vs school vs sports.

Thanks all. Due to her very likely ASD diagnosis tampons and moon cups and the like are a definite no no. It's taken years for her to let us clean the very outside of her ears. She will not tolerate anything even mildly invasive and I respect that.

I think the option of pads and pants will be enough. She is easily overwhelmed.

I'll look at all your recommendations. Thank you
