Low vaginal lactobacilli

Has anyone ever been diagnosed as having low levels of lactobacilli, and what did you do to improve? I have told I have no lactobacilli and I am suffering with severe burning pain. I have tried yoghurt and vaginal probiotic pessaries but still no lactobacilli present on swabs.

Hi OP, did you ever get an answer for this? I think I’m suffering with the same thing. How were you diagnosed?

Try some vaginal acid presssries to bring the vaginal pH down to an ideal pH in which lactobacilli can thrive (3.8-4.4)

then Canesflor pessaries to introduce lactobacilli directly into the vagina, but for twice as long as stated on the box - ie buy two boxes and use one pessary a day for two weeks as opposed to one etc.

also take a probiotic tablet like OptiBac or Femdophilus by Jarrow - these have the correct strains of lactobacilli good for the vagina, among them l crispatus, l reuteri and l rhamnosus.

lastly also drink keffir (though this is the slowest way to build lactobacilli in the vagina and requires at least two months.)

You may also require an antibiotic course to eradicate the bad bacteria already present (usually Gardnerella)

Good luck OP.

@Newname10 I had a test from Mr Ugwumadu who told me I had low lactobacilli. In the end after my own research I did a course of fluomizin. You cab buy it on line. Then I repopulated with probiotics. I used life space, put them in a vagina friendly capsule and used vaginally. This is a treatment recommended by the my vagina website. I had already tried boric acid and canesflor before seeing Mr Ugwumadu and they made no difference to me, however I know some people have good results with boric acid I think it depends what bad bacteria you have I had enteroccous which can survive in an acidic environment. You may find a Juno test helpful to diagnose what is going on.
