Cystoscopy Experiences

Hi there

Looking for some guidance on what to expect really.

I have been having issues with utis and booked in for a cystoscopy next week .

Unfortunately the letter I've received just tells me where to go and a time, I have been sent nothing about the procedure itself

I'm unsure if I will have a local anaesthetic, how long and how painful it all is!

Any experiences would be gratefully received!!

A flexible cystoscopy is done with local anaesthetic (a cream or gel) then the camera is inserted into the urethra to look for abnormalities. I've not had one myself but patients say it can be a little uncomfortable but not painful. It's takes 5 to 10 minutes.
