Can't find the strings of my coil

I only had it put in this week, but I can't find the strings - not sure what I'm looking for, or whether I shouldn't check yet, etc etc.

Sometimes they can curl up and be over to the side. I think it’s easier to feel for them standing in the shower so you can feel all the way up if they have tucked up high.
If you have any concerns, do book for the nurse to check to see if she can see them.

I struggle to find mine due to cervix positioning. Easier if you squat and are relaxed, then try to find your cervix- I had it described to me as feeling like the tip of your nose! So a bit harder than the rest. Often the string is very short like a spikey hair.

CaptainMyCaptain · 13/08/2022 19:53

I could never feel mine.

CaptainMyCaptain · 13/08/2022 19:53

I had it for years.

I can find my cervix fine, it's super low-lying. I just can't find the strings.

Do you need to? I never worried about it.

LoveKingGary · 13/08/2022 20:15

I've never checked for mine! Don't particularly want to either

pumpkinpie01 · 13/08/2022 20:17

I never checked and never had any problems

I was told I should check periodically to make sure it's still in place.

I have a low cervix and tilted uterus, my strings disappeared almost as soon as it was put in. Nurse couldn’t find them either and I had to get a scan to check that it was in the right place (it was). After about 4 years I woke up on the night in awful pain and the strings had returned longer than they had supposed to be so I guess it shifted. They soon disappeared and I had to go to the gynae to get the damn thing removed.

Im on my 3rd. Never felt for them or thought too.

The strings soften once it's been inserted for a short while and curl up around the cervix.
I wouldnt fiddle around too much but perhaps a take a finger around your cervix and see if you can find them.
If it hasn't fallen out of you, it is probably fine but of course as with anything, if you are concerned then go back and speak to whoever inserted it.
