“Anaerobic species”

Hi All

Recently had some swabs done and my consultant has emailed saying the swabs suggest a “growth of anaerobic species.”

She already put me on Dalacin cream as she suspected BV when she took the swabs, but is this what she means by anaerobic species?

I’ve had a quick Google but does anyone know for sure?

Ive finished treatment now but she has suggested re swabbing in six weeks to ensure it’s cleared.

Anaerobic species are organisms (most likely bacteria) that survive without oxygen. They grow in places where there isn’t any oxygen, like inside your bowel or vagina. They respond to antibiotics. They often smell bad, which is why poo smells, and why BV discharge smells.
