Cystic ovary after giving birth?!

I posted recently about very irregular periods since having my DD.
For context, ive been bleeding basically every 2 weeks, apologies if TMI.
Ive seen a GP about this now who referred me for an ultrasoind and blood tests.
Im yet to have the blood results but I had the scan and am a bit miffed by what was found, as was the doctor performing the scan.

He found a large area of scar tissue in my uterus. He said it was quite big for just a placenta attachment. I explained that i had been left with retained chunks of membranes for almost 9 weeks post birth and had bled heavily all this time. He was shocked and wasnt sure if I should have any treatment for this.
He also found that one of my ovaries was cystic.
Ive had numerous scans in the past and have never had cystic ovaries before.
The scan I had at 6 weeks post birth didnt reveal any cysts either.

Obviously cystic ovaries have to start somewhere but is it common for them to start after pregnancy?
Ive not had a GP folllw up yet but saw a nurse regarding contraception.
She has prescribed the mini pill because 'it will sort the cysts out as Im bleeding so frequently'.

Has anyone had anything similar at all?
