What are the best of the best tampons? Can't believe I've booked my holiday at the time of the month! What are the very best leak proof tampons for potentially heavy periods. It varies, but its on my mind so much I'm having bad dreams about it. I just want to enjoy my holiday.

Surely whichever ones you're used to?

I really like the menstrual discs. They don’t absorb water. Soft disc. You can get them on Amazon

liveforsummer · 31/07/2022 21:48

Where are you going? Northisterone is available over the counter very cheaply many eu pharmacies.

Haggisfish3 · 31/07/2022 21:51

I’ve sent you a pm.

I always felt so self-conscious when swimming or on the beach whilst using tampons in case they leaked. I switched to using a menstrual cup a few years ago and I much prefer it, as I can just get on with enjoying myself during the day instead of trying to find a toilet to change the tampon every few hours.

Could you get period swimwear?

functionoverform · 31/07/2022 22:01

I've just been pondering this as well OP. It looks like Noristerone is available via private prescription (UK) but haven't ever used it before, so having a debate with myself whether to try it for the first time for upcoming hols, or just suck it up and feel uncomfortable.....

WhichBitchIsWhich · 31/07/2022 22:02

What's happened to norethisterone? I'm only just over tranexamic acid being taken off the shelf in boots!

Greenfrog78 · 31/07/2022 22:05

The nurse gave me a prescription for medroxyprogesterone 10mg ( 3 days before period and then 3 times per day). Its supposed to work same way.( not used it yet).

FLOWER1982 · 31/07/2022 22:06

Menstrual cup.

OhMadone · 31/07/2022 22:08

I just recently had a prescription for norethisterone, I requested it via econsult on my GP surgery website

Buffysoldersister · 31/07/2022 22:13

Menstrual cups are great but you can't swim while using them so not great for the beach unless you're not planning on going in the water.

Can't you? I've never heard that before, I've been swimming with mine. Off to google Confused

Candyflosscrochet · 31/07/2022 22:19

Menstrual cup and yes, you can go swimming.

SoThisisMe · 31/07/2022 22:19

Of course you can swim with a menstrual cup

GolfForBrains · 31/07/2022 22:20

Can't use a menstrual cup while swimming? Eh? I have never heard this, and always do. Why on earth not?

Of course you can swim when you are using a menstrual cup. I've been swimming numerous times with my mooncup. It's so much more convenient than tampons. You don't have to carry supplies with you and there is no risk of a string making an appearance.

TomAllenWife · 31/07/2022 22:28

I'm on permanent norethisterone and manage to get it from most local pharmacies

So I'd just get a prescription off your GP

idril · 31/07/2022 22:51

I find lil-lets ultra are the most leakproof. Generally speaking, non-applicator seem to leak less for me than applicator ones because they are shorter and fatter.

I tried for many months to use a menstrual cup and tried many different brands but they all leaked on me.
