Has mammogram caused breast damage?

I went for my first routine mammogram 2 weeks ago. This wasn’t my first one; I had an early one 5 years ago when I found a lump. It wasn’t a pleasant experience and my breasts were put under a fair amount of pressure but it was entirely acceptable. This time round the radiographer was a bit irritated that my breast kept “creasing” and kept trying to manoeuvre my breast into a better position. When she pressed the plate down on my right breast she did so with so much pressure I yelped out in pain and was physically shaking until she came to release me. The second image of that breast and both images on the left were just like it was the first time; a bit uncomfortable but perfectly tolerable.
a few days later unnoticed a very large lump protruding from the side of my breast. It feels like my breast tissue has been squeezed so hard it’s moved and formed a ridge of tissue. Is this possible?
I’ve got a private appt tomorrow with a breast surgeon but I just wanted to see if anyone had had any similar experiences.
thank you.

Hi op, a similar thing happened to my mum a few years' ago. Mammograms have never bothered her before and had always gone when asked to go. The last time she had the same experience as you, the nurse was irritated and slammed the plate down on her breast so hard my mum yelled out in pain. Thereafter it was black and blue. She went to the gp who was so shocked she actually called a colleague in to have a look. She got referred to the breast clinic again as she had pain for quite a few weeks afterwards but refused to have another mammogram when she got there. She saw a consultant who gave her an ultrasound and examined her but basically said it was nerve damage as a result of the mammogram.

I did tell her to complain to PALS but she didn't want to.
