Double Vagina Surgery / Vaginal Septum Removal

This is a little bit TMI for a first post but here goes.

I have a double vagina. Well, two uteruses (both normal size), two cervixes and a vagina that is divided down the middle with a thick and painful septum.

It was investigated and diagnosed years ago with a focus primarily on my hellish periods - I've basically been having two periods at once, from both vaginas, since I was 11. Only diagnosed at 28. I've had pain all my life, all throughout childhood and beyond. This was missed when I had an ultrasound scan age 12.

Anyway, due to fear, shame, lack of self-esteem, lack of confidence, and some dodgy comments from the consultant that made me feel embarrassed, I never addressed the fact that I can't have sex. Instead I just completely shut down and gave up.

Fast forward to age 37 where I've emerged from lifelong depression and realised I've wasted a huge chunk of life being alone and miserable and sexless.

I need to get the surgery and move on with my life. I don't care if I have to go private, but I don't know where to start (I live in a remote-ish region where I don't trust that there is the expertise). I can find specialists who remove uterine septums but don't mention vaginal septums.

Has anyone had this surgery, and know who the experts are? Would any gynaecological surgeon do it, or is it really specialist? It's quite a rare defect so I can't imagine anyone's done thousands of these operations anyway. How did the surgery go?

Thanks.

Hi, I have had similar surgery when I was 19. The septum didn't go all the way down though, but I have 2 cervices and 2 wombs . I was diagnosed after a lump appeared on my right side and I was in extreme pain, the right hand womb didnt have an exit so my period had been backing up on that side for 6 years! I had a hole cut to allow for blood loss. I'm pretty sure they left the septum because it was high up enough not to cause bother. I had the surgery at Queen Charlottes and Chelsea hospital and they were amazing. I went back to see them when I didnt conceive for a year and they were very supportive. The condition in all its various forms isn't as rare as people think. Feel free to pm me and I'm really sorry its affected you so much Flowers
