Lichen sclerosus - advice needed please

Hi wondered if any ladies can offer me some guidance.
DD (10) been diagnosed with this condition by a vulval consultant dermatologist and has been on steroids for 3.5 weeks. Once daily for 6 weeks and then twice weekly for 6 weeks.

Should I start to see an improvement in skin tone / colour by now? Itching, soreness and burning has gone but DD's entire vulva is still quite pale. It appears as though the bright whiteness has faded a bit but still quite pale (more of a very pale pink now) with some white areas remaining. The skin texture looks better though.

The derma did say the skin may not clear completely and should look pale rather than bright white. AIBU to think the steroids should be working better 1/3 of the way into the treatment? I suffer from anxiety and I'm so worried the steroids aren't working.

Thank you.

It can take quite a long time to heal, any damage in the vulval area takes a while in my experience.

I have found this site quite useful:

Lichen sclerosus is a difficult condition, we can use steroid creams to stop it getting worse but treatment can’t reverse the changes that have already occurred so you may find that the lighter skin tone is the ‘new normal’ for your DD now.

So once the actual lichen sclerosus has been treated the skin tone should improve?

Who knows, and vulval colour varies massively between women anyway.
