Mammogram - called back for 'further tests' - anxious - need reassuring stories

.... that you've been in the same place and it's all been ok!

I'm 58, newly single thanks to DH leaving for greener grass and don't want to worry my amazing family, friends or DC's unless there's something to actually worry about. But I can't get it out of my head so I'm reaching out to you to tell me that it's all going to be OK. To tell me that the part of the letter that said 'the majority of women who have these tests don't have cancer' is true. That it's normal to now be panicking every time I get a twinge in one of my breast. Etc etc etc.

Ugh, really don't need this right now.

I got called back, and after a further check they told me I just have a couple of cysts. Apparently more common if you take HRT I believe. It's honestly very unlikely to be something to worry about, but easy to say, and hard not to be concerned, I know.

PritiPatelsMaker · 03/07/2022 08:47

I was called back. Apparently I have "dense breasts" and there were no concerns.

Please do reach out to one friend though. I wouldn't want my DFs going to an appointment like this in their own Flowers

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 03/07/2022 08:48

Could it be that they didn’t get a very clear image to start with?

As above, my SiL was recalled and had a benign cyst removed a few days later.

Good luck. Be brave, big girl pants etc

Stripyhoglets1 · 03/07/2022 08:51

I've been called back twice and neither time was there anything worrying found after the further imaging and biopsy.

MrsMaverick · 03/07/2022 08:52

I was called back for a second mammogram on one breast plus an ultrasound. They thought everything was fine but then decided to send me for an mri.

Mri looked ok but they wanted to be absolutely sure so sent me for a biopsy and was told everything was ok.

There was a couple of weeks between each procedure so it dragged on a while but I was glad they were thorough.

I'm a first time poster, and am so glad to have plucked up the courage as this is exactly what I needed to hear. I am grateful for replies as they've been so reassuring. THANK YOU 😊

Big girl pants are firmly on!

I have had this happen several times - always cysts. The worst bit is the waiting.

Crazydogmumma · 03/07/2022 09:11

I was called back last year after a routine mammogram. At my appointment I had another mammogram, an examination and several biopsies taken. I returned a week later to be told all was fine and no further treatment needed.

although it was a scary time - they were very thorough. Most recalls do not mean anything sinister. Big girl pants needed. Sending you strength!

LadyCampanulaTottington · 03/07/2022 09:28

I went for my first mammogram this year. Was brought straight for an ultrasound right after the mammogram as there was a suspicious area.

The doctor said he suspected papilloma and that I could wait 6 months or get a biopsy. I did the biopsy as my grandmother had breast cancer. It was confirmed a papilloma, nothing to worry about!

steppingcarefully · 03/07/2022 18:07

Nine out of ten recalls are for benign reasons. Expect anther mammogram, an ultrasound and possibly a biopsy. You will be told on the day at the appointment what they think it is, the waiting for the appointments and results is the worst bit. I have been to the breast clinic on two occasions and both times the care and treatment I received was amazing. Good luck.

A false alarm! I can let go of that breath I didn't realise I was holding till today.
Thank you for your support and kindness x
And, to all of us with breasts, get 'em checked when you get invited!
