Brown nipple discharge. To wait and see?

Hi all, just after some opinions / advice.

about two weeks ago I have had a one off brown nipple discharge , from my left breast . It happened while I was in the shower .
I’m 32, stopped Brestfeeding 2 years ago . Today I had an appointment at the breast clinic, where o had a clear ultrasound. Nothing brown came out of my breast , just milk and no blood as they tested it with the strips.
anyway the doctor basically says if he happens again he wants me to get back and have a total duct excision , which basically you can’t breastfeed anymore after that . I did ask him if it was the case to just do it anyway but he says my risk of it being a ductal carcinoma in situ ( earliest non invasive breast cancer ) are very low and he is happy for me to keep an eye on it .

i don’t know , part of me wishes they did the duct biopsy to be 100% sure , but obviously it might seem a bit OTT.

anyone been through similar ?

thanks xx

@irene90 I’m having similar breast issues at the moment though not the discharge, so I’ve become a bit of a google expert! The breast clinic doctor’s advice seems good, great that you have been see so quickly, at this stage I would be happy to just keep an eye on it, as advised.

Thanks for your reply.

yes I think it’s a reasonable plan , keep thinking that if it’s cancer that caused it surely it will happen again at one point ( doubt it will just disappear by itself ) and if does they will biopsy at the point . There is always something isn’t there ? Hope you get sorted with your issues . I had several lumps checked out over the years and nothing nasty ever came . Keeping my fingers crossed for you too x

Thanks Irene90 same to you. Yes there’s always something, good that we can be seen quickly, and so important to keep an eye on things x

Me! I have had it for 17 years since I stopped bf. Now it’s only when I squeeze.

Had loads of test and all normal.
