I started taking Desogestrel about seven months ago as had very heavy periods due to fibroids. For the first few months of taking the mini pill, the bleeding was near constant, but light, which I figured was preferable to the nearly two-week long heavy periods, so I persisted. However, today, I've started bleeding even more heavily than before, with massive clots (TMI: I measured one; it was 17cm long). I'm using a high-capacity menstrual cup and a very thick pad and am soaking though my underwear three times in an hour. I rang 111 and a clinician was supposed to ring me back but they haven't. I'm supposed to be having a hysterectomy to remove the fibroids but it's been six months since my consultant appointment and they haven't even called me for the preliminary biopsy yet.
Is this the mini pill or could there be something more sinister going on?
