Laparoscopy

Hi,
I'm having a laparoscopy next month to remove a cyst on my ovary and treat endometriosis if they find any.

I've read everything on the Nhs website but was wondering if anyone could tell me about their experience of recovery and how long that takes?

I'm going on holiday 2 weeks later so want to know if I will be recovered by then or if I will still be sore.
Thanks

Hi Op I had a laparoscopy to treat endometriosis a while back and remember being able to walk up the steps of an aeroplane about a week later; still had a dressing on but the incisions were very small and I think healed up pretty well. I didn’t have kids back then kind so I was able to completely rest. I think my stomach muscles were a bit sore for a week but fine after that. I hope all goes well for you

Thank you! That's good news that's I should be okay for the holiday.
I've got a 4 year old and a nearly 2 year old so getting enough rest might be difficult but it's good to hear it's a quick recovery.

You should be ok for your holiday a fortnight later. I recovered from this within a couple of days. Its keyhole surgery too so minimal scarring and small incisions. The worst thing I found about it was the post op pain in the shoulders afterwards because the gas used travels upwards. Painkillers though took the edge off it but you need to rest.

With your lap op you should ideally be given a follow up appointment a week or so later to discuss the findings of the op. Telling you about this in any great detail when you are in the recovery room is a no as well as poor practice.

You certainly need to know if endo was found and if so what they did. Also re the cyst I would ask if this actually was a chocolate cyst or endometrioma (those are related to endometriosis too).

Thank you, I hadn't even heard of a chocolate cyst before so I will definitely ask if they don't mention it.

I'm relieved to hear that recovery isn't too bad and il have a chat with family to see if they can help a bit with the kids so I can get some rest.
