Best alternative to the pill?

I have been on the pill on and off (but mostly on, only took breaks to get pregnant) since I was 16. I am now 34 so that's many many years of being on the pill. I take desogestrel and have done for many years and it worked fine until I had children then it basically didn't seem as effective and I have to take two a day to ensure I don't spot / bleed pretty much constantly - I have had checks and scans and there is nothing wrong so it's "hormonal". If I drop down to one, the bleeding starts within a few days.

My doctors haven't been overly helpful, they just say if taking two works then take two but I have found it has caused weight gain and impacts my moods greatly.

So, I want to come off then - but I need an alternative. I don't like the idea of the injection or implant so I am thinking of the coil, but which one and do they actually stop periods or make them very light and which one is the least "chemical" and more natural (copper??).

Thanks
