Random period - is this normal?

I am on the mini pill so don't normally get periods. In December, I got a random period that lasted about 3 weeks. The first 10 days were so heavy that I felt constantly faint and there were massive clots every time I wiped.

This morning I have woken up and seem to have the same thing - random heavy period with clots. So I'm averaging a couple of heavy periods a year. I haven't missed any pills. Is this normal?

How old are you ?

Did you tell the Dr who prescribed the pill to you about the break through bleeding?

I'm 35. Yes I went to the dr the last time this happened but they didn't seem concerned. Just did a swab to check for any infection and a urine test.
