Bacterial vaginosis

I’ve had three lots of treatment for bacterial vaginosis (first was oral antibiotics, then second and third were the cream that you insert. All three times the symptoms clear up for a week or so and then come back 😫 has anyone ever experienced this, and if so what eventually treated it? I’m waiting for a call back from the doctor tomorrow to see what they suggest, but if it’s antibiotics again I’m sure it’ll return. I can’t think of anything I’m doing that would cause it to return either!

I used some stuff that you...well...squirt up there once a day that has probiotics and brings back your good bacteria.

It worked when antibiotics hadn't.

Will find it on Amazon and come back with a link in a second.

Couldn't do a link for some reason but here's a pic.

You do it everyday for 7 days

I have the exact same problem as the OP. I used that product for weeks now @wheresmymojo and although it is a bit better its still not gone. Plus as soon as I stop using that it comes back.

I really don't want to do the ABs again as a) they didn't work and B) they were really strong and I felt very unwell on them.

It's really upsetting and affecting my sex life alot.

Has anyone got any suggestions?

Thanks.

I used boots thrush & BV treatment not so long ago and it worked well. Maybe try that? Hope it gets better for you.

Iamblossom · 10/07/2022 16:54

Thankyou that's very kind 😊

Grosscostsagreed · 10/07/2022 18:03

I have heard people have had results with fluomizin which is an antiseptic rather than an antibiotic.

Nigelladamascena · 10/07/2022 19:04

Not sure if this will help. When I have had BV I have used these probiotics capsules and pessaries. They seem to help.

Removed my IUD

Skydancera · 10/12/2022 18:02

How long did it take for this to take effect after removing the IUD? I’m thinking of having mine out as I’m having a nightmare at the moment

GiveYourHeadAWobble · 16/12/2022 17:51

I went through this whole BV thing and it was a nightmare. I tried everything and some things did help (including using a probiotic made for women's health) but in the end I got empty vegetarian capsules, boric acid and coconut oil and made my own suppositories to insert. That was honestly the only thing that ever solved the problem for me. Boric acid is the best treatment in my opinion.

I wanted to update in case my experience helps anyone else...

I went back on the Depo Provera injection about a month ago, instead of being on the mini pill, and all my symptoms of BV have completely gone.

It had got so bad I was inserting a pessary every day. If I forgot, the smell was awful and sex was out of the question. I thought that was it forever.

I don't know if it's because being on the injection just stops me having a cycle but whatever it is it has worked and I am delighted.

Did you fully recover? If so what worked in the end?

Eyelashesoffire · 14/04/2023 22:10

The vitaflora probiotics worked for me

myveryownelectrickitten · 14/04/2023 22:41

I was going to say, check your hormone levels and/or whatever contraception you’re on - I had this when long term breastfeeding, and it was caused by low oestrogen (which happens when bf). If your hormone levels are out of balance for some reason that can be the cause, and you need to address the underlying imbalance that’s causing the BV. It’s not an infection as such, it’s because the underlying vaginal flora/microbiome is out of whack somehow.

crazeecatlady · 14/04/2023 22:59

What (precisely) are your symptoms? Who told you it was BV?

Pinkpanthax · 19/09/2023 10:10

Av only just came across this not sure if u have found a solution yet but I'll tell u what worked for me. Am 37 av had bv since i was high school i went to the docs many of times to get antibiotics that would only last a month then all symptoms would come back. I tried everything and i mean everything and nothing would work for me until i started useing d3+mg glycinate u will find them on amazon really cheap £10 take 1 a day and two days later all symptoms have gone its the best £10 av ever spent tbh..i hope whoever needs help with bv comes across this is swear by it 20 odd years i suffered from it and in the matter of 2 days taken them all symptoms were away
