Anyone had a breast lump which turned out to not be cancerous?

Hi everyone, i found a breast lump and saw the GP today. I did stop breastfeeding in March but she didn’t think it has anything to do with that. The whole breast has been painful for two weeks. Could be my bra but it hasn’t affected the other breast so doubt it. I have been referred so waiting for a call. As you can imagine I am worried sick! Anyone have this and it turn out to not be cancerous?

I’ve been told I have “lumpy” breasts.Hmm I’ve been 5 tumes, twice with lumps I’ve found and three times recalls from Mammograms all were fine.
Try not to worry, chances are it’s nothing you will be fine.

I have a golf ball sized cyst in one boob and two small ones in the other. The big one aches and sometimes hurts, but I’m leaving it be for the minute. Some peopke are just cyst-y. Did you have any blocked ducts or mastitis while breast feeding. I had lots and think it was connected (although no evidence)

Thanks for the replies. I really hope it is nothing serious.

Have you had mastitis?

RosyappleA · 15/06/2022 23:04

Interesting never had mastitis but I felt like I had blocked ducts sometimes as DD would feed she would struggle then I would squeeze and suddenly a stream would come along. Must be from the breastfeeding. Worried me when the doctor said she didn’t think it was to do with that but we shall see, will update. Thanks again.

Yes, a milk cyst about 12m post breastfeeding, then a different random cyst more recently that was drained, 8+ yrs post breastfeeding. Breast clinic found dozens more cysts I couldn't feel at mammogram. All benign. Good luck

Newmum738 · 15/06/2022 23:05

I had a lump but was given tablets and it went away. Think it was a blocked gland or something like that!

justasking111 · 15/06/2022 23:12

I had mastitis years later mammograms showed calcification in the breast. First lockdown had an infection, then another, fast tracked for breast cancer check. Awful antibiotics in the meantime. Everything clear . So 20 years on I'm still suffering. Consultant said bra day and night for support. NO underwiring. Touch wood no more lumps or infections

I have a recurring cyst. First time I went into melt down and decided it was cancer.

doctor drained it and told me it would come back every few years - he was right!

much calmer now I know what it is.

i know lots of people who have had lumps that turned out to be nothing

Yes I have had 2. One fatty tissue and one calcified lump. Scariest few days of my life

SnotsGotTheBoobies · 18/06/2022 20:29

I found a lump in my breast not long after I stopped breast feeding my DD! I went to my doctors, who said she thinks it was fine, but had to refer me anyway! So I went to the hospital, and the specialist said it was fine! It was a “mouse” lump or something.
I was so freaking relieved, so just try not to worry. Lumps and bumps are pretty normal in a woman’s breast. Especially after you’ve had a baby. Please relax xxx

Lovemusic33 · 18/06/2022 20:34

I have had several, got sent to hospital for the first which was conformed not to be anything to worry about and then I recently went to my gp who examined me and found a couple small lumps but I was told they were probably just linked to hormones and to keep an eye on them. Apparently I just have lumpy boobs.

RosyappleA · 30/06/2022 13:31

Just updating. Went to hospital today they felt it and checked on ultrasound. They said it is nothing suspicious and likely to be changes brought on by stopping breastfeeding. So relieved I thought it is such a hard ball (2p size) that it must be something. Thanks for all the replies they helped me get through the wait.

@RosyappleA good news! Strong tea, large gin, whatever suits. Glad to hear this.

Sugaspunsista · 30/06/2022 14:45

Yes. A cyst that was drained on the day of my scan

Sugaspunsista · 30/06/2022 14:46

Oh great news OP!

TheSummerPalace · 30/06/2022 14:50

I had three lumps; and severe pain in my breast before a period. I couldn’t bear to hug my children. The GP was obviously worried about one of them! They turned out to be benign fibrous cysts! 1,000 mg of Starflower oil a day sorted them out! Evening Primrose oil gives me nausea, whereas Starflower oil was fine!

2000lightyearsaway123 · 30/06/2022 14:55

Hi OP,

I actually currently have 3 different harmless breast lumps including one very large one (and previously had 2 removed ) all fiberedenomas. So just wanted to say try not to panic. It could be nothing to worry about at all but your doing the right thing having it checked out.
