Disclaimer, I love my showers and shower daily and wash my hair every day. If I go to the gym I might even shower twice in a day.

But the last few months I have noticed I have bad BO, especially under my arm pits which is not great in a zumba class when I'm waving my arms around.

I use deodorant daily, Sanex roll on, and sure spray if it's hot.

Any advice, is this normal and what can I do about it?

Thanks

I was about to suggest Driclor. It's the only thing I've found that actually works but for me when I put it on it feels like someone is stabbing my arm pits with a thousand pins so I only use it before special occasions

pizzaandgin · 10/06/2022 11:15

Thanks - does this help with the smell ?

I would think so . If the sweat is causing the smell and it stops you sweating completely when applied properly

JamieFraserskneewarmer · 10/06/2022 11:25

I have sensitive skin and found Driclor and Perspirex effective but gave me terrible rashes. I have found that Trust anti-odourant works really well with no flare ups. Not cheap but you can get it at Boots

SickSadWorId · 10/06/2022 11:28

I agree with above - you need a stringer deodorant like driclor or similar. I use Odaban, I only need to use it once a week.

RampantIvy · 10/06/2022 11:29

Stop using shower gel, and use a bar of soap instead.

I have going to say this too. Exfoliate once a week also.

Ok- two things that will 100% work- after decade's of trying everything known to (wo)man There's a set on Amazon by Perspi-Guard, containing a 24hr odour ban wash and an overnight spray (like driclor others have mentioned but this doesn't sting).
The other thing is Glycolic acid toner by The Ordinary, which will actually work on its own. It changes the pH of the pits making them inhospitable to odour causing bacteria. I have Reddit to thank for that one! Good luck!

KangarooKenny · 13/06/2022 17:14

I moved up to Perspirex to help with the whiff.
I wear cotton as much as possible.
And I use Asda’s liquid talc between my boobs, as that was a whole new smell !

KangarooKenny · 13/06/2022 17:14

And soap, not shower gel.

I've never heard of this glycolic acid 'trick'!
When do you apply? As maintenance, after a shower or every single time before applying deodorant on clean skin?

I have a limited repertoire of roll on antiperspirants that I use and they are, mostly, doing the job. On the odd occasion they fail me. Which, in turn, makes me wonder if they will fail today. And on and on it goes. I'd love one 100% guaranteed solution that would last for 12 hours straight every single time.

whomoon · 14/06/2022 17:01

@pizzaandgin
I used to have exactly the same issue, and although both Perspirex stopped the sweating a lot, I was still left with an arm pit smell, even straight after a shower. And then any anti perspiring or deodrant I used would sort of mix with the BO smell, and would cover it rather than fix it.

BUT, I found PitRok. A deodorant rock crystal that you put on wet pits directly after a shower. The guidance is to use this as your overall deodrant, but I used it just to solve the smell, and then would apply my usual anti-perspirant and hey presto! Smell was gone!

i actually don’t use it much now at all, it somehow fixed the smell. But after using everything out there, and doing all the soaps, showers, cotton, diet etc, it was the only thing that truly worked.

good luck!!

Bar soap makes a massive difference for me in the shower under the arms for a good 10 seconds. And strong deodorant like Sure Advanced Protection. Also doing all my washing with biological detergent.
I can't use 'gentle' formulas, I just get stinky!

fuckfuckfuck2021 · 14/06/2022 18:27

Use baby soap and no shower gels or perfumed washes. Made such a difference to me! I was shocked when I started smelling couldn't understand what had happened.

Luredbyapomegranate · 14/06/2022 23:42

Soap rather than shower gell is always the advice

Dermol 500 lotion is antibacterial, if you get a bit of general boob and back sweat it does help if you use it as body lotion

justasking111 · 14/06/2022 23:45

Make sure it's real soap . I use goats milk soap lasts ages. Wash really well. Menopause is a pain.
