I suffer with terrible mood swings leading up to and during my period. Any advice?

It is such a horrible problem.

Make sure you cut down on caffeine and sugar as much as possible, and make sure you do not skip meals: eat properly including protein and green vegetables, and have some snacks with nuts and say an apple. This is to try to avoid sugar swings which make things far worse.

Magnesium tablets, Vit D3, Vit B6 may help considerably too.

Natural progesterone cream in the last phase of the cycle may help.

Get exercise outside or do yoga.

Severe anger and depression may be underlying and ‘break through’ at this time. Consider getting help the very real causes there may be behind this - (anti-depressants could help if it is all very, very bad, but then these may have their own side effects.)

@ScrollingLeaves

Thanks for the advise. Some of it requires actual energy from me, which is so low at the moment. Plus I'm using what little I have to care for my 1 year old.

I'll look at the multivits though.

I feel for you.

Could you buy in good foods to have as grab snacks? Feta, cottage cheese, nuts, chicken breast, fish (pan fry in minutes) frozen vegetables (microwave)? Avoiding sugar swings helps massively and to do this you need to eat stuff like this ( or lentils and veg. Sausages etc if you are vegetarian).

Also specific vitamins and minerals rather than a multi Vit.

I'm the same right now to the point where I want to go back onto the pill.

Caffeine + not eating something frequently ( or only eating chocolate bars) = terrible mood swings, possible episodes of rage, and low energy.

I am not saying you are living that way but it is a very natural tendency when very busy/ exhausted.

@ScrollingLeaves

Yeah I know I don't help myself. I know I should look after myself better. I drink lots of coffee and snack at night when the kids are in bed.
