If so, what was your experience? Was it easy to do? Were you waiting ages for results?

I've just got the letter to go for a smear. My periods are irregular at the moment - perimenopause, so anywhere between. I know it's going to be a balls ache getting a time at the GP (last time I went pre-Covid it was a nightmare - diary only open a month in advance, set times to go) and not I've got to try and factor in an irregular cycle. Not to mention the faffing around with face masks etc still.

I'm seriously considering paying for one of the superdrug home HPV tests but wondered if anyone had any experience / advice for me

I haven't done an at home test but have just managed to get a smear test whilst also wrangling appointments a month in advance and an unpredictable cycle! If my period is still this unpredictable next time I have to have one, and what I would advise you to do if for some reason you can't get an at home test, is to book 2 appointments a week or 10 days apart. Then you can cancel one nearer the time when you know which you won't need. Faff and annoying for others, but if you can only book a month in advance you have to do what you have to do. Hth.
