Excessive watery discharge - 11 months postpartum, no smell

Hoping for some advice/shared experience.

I'm 11 months postpartum. I have combination fed and am still breastfeeding at night. Periods have not yet returned.

Pre pregnancy, I always had quite a lot of discharge (normal for me) and was very obviously linked to my cycle and would have clear stages throughout the month. Experienced quite a lot of watery discharge during mid/late stages of pregnancy.

Post-pregnancy, I have hardly had any discharge at all. In recent weeks, I've noticed some, but only now and then. However for the last few days I am suddenly having LOTS of very watery discharge which requires a panty liner or pad. It's clear (but dries slightly yellow/off white) and has no smell. I've previously had discharge like this around ovulation time, but normally only for about a day maximum, not several! I've had no other symptoms.

It's quite a large amount, which is why I'm posting. I'm wondering if it could be some sort of hormonal thing re breastfeeding and perhaps my periods will restart soon? Or should I be thinking it's something else I need to worry about? Suffer badly with health anxiety, so always assuming the worse, even though from everything I've seen online there are no red flags re smell, colour etc etc.

Thanks in advance x

I’ve always read that the only discharge to worry about is smelly (as in smells unpleasant). I know watery discharge is associated with fertility/ovulation - maybe your periods are coming back!

Hugasauras · 20/05/2022 20:38

I'd assume it was just your body gearing up to return to having periods again! Mine returned around the same time.

Thanks! That's what I has thought - only felt bit worried as the amount isn't like anything I've experienced before. But I guess pregnancy/postpartum does strange things to the body?!

Mine is like this during ovulation. It's very annoying!

You should get it checked out by the GP, it could be nothing, especially as you've had it before, or could be something that needs treatment, it was my first symptom of thickening of my endometrium.

Popsa25 · 20/05/2022 22:29

Did you have other symptoms? Did yours come on suddenly?

No other symptoms. In retrospect I had had increasing amounts of discharge for a while, but I started to wonder whether I was peeing myself as there was so much and it was yellowy but didn't smell.

How long do you find it lasts?

I always used to get some very watery episodes during my cycle (which I now know from when I was TTC was ovulation) but never for this long!

Hello! I'm restarting this thread after Googling watery discharge 7 months post partum!
What happened following this? Did you period return shortly after?
Currently experiencing same thing. Also combi feeding and still bf but no period yet.
Thanks!
