Period not stopping (teenager)

Dd is 18 and has been on her period for 4 weeks, sometimes light, sometimes heavy. Her periods have always been a bit irregular, dd has ASD and a few other conditions but none that should effect her periods. When I Google it just comes up with things that older women suffer with or medications that can cause long periods, the only thing that it could possibly be is endometriosis? She doesn’t get a lot of pain (just the normal period pains). I am getting her to contact the GP today, now she’s 18 I don’t think I can do it for her?

has anyone else had a period that won’t stop?

there is family history of similar, I have had similar issues myself but the cause never really found and last year I had ablation and was sterilised which had helped a little bit but not cured the issue. I. Worried that dd is experiencing similar symptoms at such a young age.

Uterine polyps can cause such bleeding to arise and it may well be that your DD will need to see a gynaecologist to properly establish the cause. GP should really refer her onto a specialist.

Can you act also as your DDs advocate here, will she allow you to sit in on her appointment?. Apart from anything else you can ask the GP questions and this would give her extra support.

Thank you, gp said it could e a number of things causing it or it could be a one off caused by stress (dd is sitting A levels soon and is stressed), so hey are going to try the pill first and see if it helps, if not she will be referred for further investigation.
