Bleeding for 16 days

VeronicaM27 · 28/04/2022 20:41

I started spotting 10 days before my period was due. My period then started about 4 days early and was really heavy for about a week. I'm on day 16 today and still spotting.

I'm usually very regular with spotting a day or so before my period starts and then I usually stop bleeding altogether by day 7 or 8.

Any idea what could be causing this? Should I be making an appointment with gp? Or just wait and see if it goes back to normal next month?

Any changes to the menstrual cycle beyond your "normal" should be reported to the GP.

In my experience the GP won’t care at all, there’s no point going to them with this.

I reported this kind of extended spotting and mood swings in the luteal phase to my GP as it’s affecting my marriage…she asked one question (“are your periods still regular?”) and when I said yes she literally said “well you’re alright then” and shut the conversation down.

Women’s health and GPs do not mix well in my experience!

Sorry to say I don’t have any advice, just sympathy at the woeful level of care afforded to us

Going through same thing. Period is just not stopping - I’m on day 11. This month my period was late, and it has been extremely
light but the spotting just isn’t stopping

What age are you? I've found this is quite normal for perimenopause, but would have been concerning before then, because my periods were just 5-6 days back then.

Have you had covid recently?

ive been experiencing the most bizarre changes to my cycle since having covid, if you Google it there’s loads of information surfacing. Obviously best not to assume it’s that and be seen but there seems to be a link.

Also if you’ve been I’ll. I was unwell this month and my gp thinks my body attempted to essentially halt my period until I was better. My period has now lasted 14 days - spotting only and has today started to resemble my normal flow. I had a smear, pelvic mri 8 months ago which were normal. Only think I am concerned about is being peri menopausal. My mum went through menopause at 42, my grandma at 39. In 33 so it isn’t totally out of the question for me either
