Biopsy results - waiting hell

TomAllenWife · 21/04/2022 17:15

So I found a lump in my left breast a few weeks ago
Had a mammogram within a few days
Went for results yesterday to be told that left breast is fine but they noted some 'changes' in the right breast.
They did an ultrasound and biopsy of some 'calcification'

I am shell shocked, barely functioning today, results are 2 weeks away
WTF am I going to do SadSad

Its a tough time - having to wait whilst there's a chance that something is badly wrong is utter hell

Some calcifications are random and show no sign of cancer, others can be very, very early stage (most treatable, or even pre-cancer). Which wont stop you worrying (nothing will, tbh)

Very sorry you are going through this OP, I can relate. Calcifications are common and usually cause no problems, but I know that doesn't help when you are in limbo waiting for results. A routine mammogram found them in my left breast last year - I was beside myself with worry when I got letter saying 'abnormalities' had been found in my routine mammogram. I had to wait 2 long weeks for follow up appointment to find out what those abnormalities were. My mind went to some very dark places. At the appointment I was told that they had found calcifications and I was immediately relieved (as worst case scenario it was very early stage cancer). Had biopsy and another two week wait for results - found those 2 weeks a bit easier, kept myself busy (was over Christmas/New Year). Thankfully nothing of concern was found, but I don't think I'll ever forget how terrifying I found the two weeks waiting to hear what the abnormalities were.

I'm sorry you're going through this stress.

Agree with previous posts and from experience, it sounds like they have found a possible DCIS , which is a common finding in mammograms and has no symptoms at all as it is so tiny.

They could be harmless or pre cancerous, in which case you'll have a few treatment or monitoring options. Even if pre cancerous, it will be contained and very early so treatable and not life threatening.

Good luck OP and hope you can try not to worry too much while waiting.

Thank you for such positive stories

I'm shattered but can't sleep, want to be alone but feel depressed Sad
I hope I feel better tomorrow, I'm going run as it said I could exercise 48 hrs after the biopsy, it normally clears my head
