Periods are ruining my life

Maybe a little dramatic but they do really effect me.
I only get bad symptoms for 5 days of my 28 day cycle, so I understand it could be worse and people suffer a lot more then what I do.
However for those 5 days I get the following symptoms
1 - Exhausted, as in real fatigue and want to spend the day lay down, I end up falling asleep at around 8 in the evening.
2 - my whole body aches, especially my legs and arms.
3 - pain all in my stomach, back and top of legs.
4 - breathlessness, not as in gasping for breath, but can feel it if I walk up the stairs for instance.
5 - shivering on an evening
6 - night sweats.
7 - really annoying headaches
8 - feeling very anxious and low in mood.
9 - feeling nauseous and having loose stools.
10 - brain fog.
11 - weird vision.
To start with I thought this was maybe anaemia, but had a blood test and all was fine.
I can cope with the pain and some of the more physical symptoms, but the fatigue and anxiety really effects me to the stage I struggle to function.
Has anyone else suffered these symptoms related to their time of the month. If so have you ever found anything to reduce the symptoms???

My 17 year old daughter had been having increasing difficulty with her period. For her the biggest issue has been nausea and vomiting alongside aches, pains and tiredness. She also became very tearful and anxious. She started on a contraceptive patch around 3 months ago. She has a lactose intolerance so chose the patch over the oral contraceptive. As her periods are "disruptive" her prescription allows her to use the patches without breaks so she no longer has a period. It has made a huge difference to her quality of life.

Has she found it to be helpful with the anxiety too??
I was on the deposit injection before having DD but I found that just made me an emotional mess.

Yes she has but I think for her that's because her anxiety was really about worrying that she'd be sick whilst at work/college. Def worth seeing your GP/Practise Nurse to talk over your options?

becarefuloutthere · 08/04/2022 16:28

@xXwhenwillitendXx it could be endometriosis. If you have painful sex as well you should tell your gp and see if they'll refer you for a diagnostic laparoscopy. This needs to be done by a gynaecologist with a specialist interest in endo. I got my referral this way, that and ttc unsuccessfully as well. Good luck 🤞🏾

I actually got pregnant really quickly (as in first time of having unprotected sex) but had two early miscarriages before having DD.
I've got private medical insurance so could always ask for a referral but I'm worried it's nothing and I'll look stupid.

Ask to be referred to a specialist is woman’s health. A gynaecologist might help or an endocrinologist?
I was helped by the Mirena coil too.
I really empathise with your situation but with private health, get yourself referred asap.

Geneticsbunny · 08/04/2022 17:10

I had a lot of these symptoms and they have all gone since I had a mirena coil fitted.

I would also have blood tests done to see what your thyroid levels are like currently. An under active thyroid could be the root cause of all these symptoms.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 08/04/2022 19:25

I would urge you to go private and get this investigated properly. You will not be stupid, your health is important.

Something is causing all this to arise and it is certainly in your interests to find out what it is. These types of issues as well do not go away on their own.
