Asking for a hand hold

I had a Pap smear/exam yesterday for unexplained bleeding - I’m 58 and have been in menopause 18 years - started at 40.

They found a large polyp on my cervix and thought that was the cause of the bleeding. I had an ultrasound afterwards. Today they called and want to do a uterine biopsy tomorrow because they found a thickened uterine lining and abnormal blood flow in the uterus. I had HPV almost 40 years ago and I’m beyond worried.

When I went into menopause so early my doctors told me I didn’t need a gynecologist anymore - I took that to mean no paps - so I haven’t had one for many years. Thanks for reading if you got this far.🌸

Hello, I'm sorry, no expertise here either but definitely a hand hold. Try and keep yourself optimistic. Let us know how it goes for you. Hope you get some sleep. 🙏

A handhold from me. Flowers

I've had my biopsy and am waiting for results, what I know so far is I've got an enlarged uterus, increased blood supply, and polyp like structures (so sounds very similar to you).

It's an agonising wait. However, from all the reading I've done and the reassurance I've had on here, cancer is unlikely and there are various stages of thickened endometrium that are non/pre cancerous.

Doesn't stop the panic, I know - but the odds are that it's not anything sinister.

I hope all goes well today.

How was your biopsy @Wrenna - hope it wasn't too painful, and that you get your results soon. x

Hope everything went ok 🥰 xx

My gynecologist couldn’t get into to do the biopsy because of the polyp. She wanted to be 100% sure she was getting uterine cells and not polyp. So I’m scheduled for a biopsy April 13 where they will remove the polyp(s) and get a biopsy under anesthesia.

My blood rest did come back OK, though, so that’s something. Thinking of you all 🥰.

That must be very frustrating - but glad you've got a date to get everything sorted. Good news on the blood test 🥰

Just wanted to update. I had my biopsy/d&c/polyp removal last Wednesday under general anesthesia. It went well, they gave me three by mouth medications beforehand - it was optional but they said it was proven to lessen post op pain - one was just Tylenol - so I took them. I went in at 10:45 am and was out (home) at 4:00 but most of that was prep/recovery. They had given me 800 mg of Ibroprophen by IV and I had no pain at all afterwards. The next day I had a headache but I only took 400 mg of ibroprophen for it and had again no pain at all. I wore a pad Wednesday & Thursday then switched to a liner Friday/Sat/today. Not much bleeding at all I’m happy to report. I find out my results in two weeks which is agony but I’m cautiously optimistic. Just wanted to update in case someone else needs this procedure - I just wanted to reassure them it was 100% fine and in my case pain free.
Thinking of you ComfortablyFrumpy!!

@comfortablyfrumpy Flowers for you too!

comfortablyfrumpy · 02/05/2022 14:17

@Wrenna I am glad you got your biopsy and de-polyping done OK.
I hope you won't be waiting too long for the results.
To my surprise, mine came back clear. I was pretty convinced from what the consultant said, that there was something going on, but thankfully it seems not. The wait was awful though!
Fingers and everything crossed for you x
