Mirena - constant bleeding

I had a Mirena fitted about 6 weeks ago. Initially it delayed my period which eventually did arrive but was a lot lighter than normal. Problem is it hasn’t stopped - I’m on day 16 with no signs of it slowing. I’ve had a Mirena before, pre children and it was great - no periods no side effects. My periods did change after children and have been a lot heavier. They also came back quite quickly after birth despite breast feeding.

The dr did warn me it might be different this time and to give it time to settle (she said 3-6 months) but the thought of bleeding constantly for the next 5 months fills me with dread! Has anyone else gone through the same thing?? Thanks

Hi Op, has this settled down for you yet? I'm in a similar situation (hence finding your thread in a search!). Had the mirina fitted mid cycle - period arrived bang on time but hasn't stopped. Light bleeding every day - now day 11. As this is my first period since it's been fitted I'm hoping this is normal and that it'll sort itself out soon.

Mine was removed. After 11 months of bleeding and "waiting for it to settle" I'd had enough.

Mine took a few months to settle down - I was bleeding a fair bit for at least 3 months. But now, 6 months in, I only get extremely light bleeding for periods and nothing in between- maybe a little tiny bit of spotting.

Have you had it checked to make sure it's in the correct position? When I had pelvic pain after mine was inserted it's the first thing my GP suggested. If necessary, find a different doctor or go to the family planning clinic.

@user1488622199 and @Emus I had exactly the same thing. Pretty much constant bleeding for 6 months. It was utterly grim. I had my coil checked and everything was fine.
After about 6 months it fizzled out, I have monthly very light spotting and a bit of cramping but nothing much. It was worth the wait as previously my period were horrendous.

Constant bleeding for six months is what I'm dreading. Hoping this settles down soon. Think I would prefer my heavy periods - at least it was all done with in a day or two! I will give it six months. No pain thankfully.
