Mirena success after negative Pop experience

Just as the title says really, I was hoping to see if anyone who had a negative experience on the progesterone only pill had anything positive to say about the Mirena coil?

I feel I was railroaded by the doctor into getting it there and then, that there was no other options for me.

I had a truly awful experience on the pop, huge depression hormonal episodes of crying and enormous weight gain.

I'm struggling with this, I feel like I've made a huge huge mistake and am now panicking. Surely it can't be sending me mad already after a couple of days?

Afraid not! I tried them the other way round - Mirena first and then the POP. Neither suited me, they went meant to help with heavy bleeding. The mirena made it worst and the POP made me bleed daily for 11 weeks before I finally quit with it. Looking back I also think the mirena made me gain weight and affected my mood.

Thanks for your response. I feel like this wasn't my choice , I wish I had stood up for myself there and then, my BMI (31) is too high in her opinion for the combined pill which I used for years with no issues. Even though she told me the guideline was anything between 33 and 30 was at the doctors discretion.

I’ve been through loads of POPs and the Mirena. Neither solved my heavy bleeding problem. The Mirena only remained in situ for around 10 days before it expelled itself with a blood clot, so my experience on it wasn’t very long.

It's been great. I'm on my second Mirena. The less said about the insertion of this one the better, however I'm 6 months in and my periods are back down to next to nothing, less painful etc - I no longer even need tampons on 4 out of 5 days. I've always had huge issues with my periods and the Pop made me bleed every day for a year - it was horrific.

Thanks for the stories. It's interesting to hear your experiences.

I had no bleeding on the pop or very little compared to the copper coil, but my moods and mental health was a disaster on the pop. I'm terrified it will happen all over again and can't stop being annoyed I didn't say No this is absolutely not what I want .

Toying with the idea of calling the gp and demanding it be removed as in hindsight I'm not happy

you're lucky it was only 10 days @thepersiantheory mine hung over for a nearly a year before it did that! Or at least that's what we assume happened to it.....
