HRT was working… but menopause symptoms suddenly back

ARRGH
Nine nights in a row now I’ve woken up with that jittery, strange panic sensation that was all but gone since I started HRT patches four months ago.

I wasn’t even sure it was peri-menopause but my doctor said to try it and see, and it really worked almost immediately. The body parts sweeting is coming back too.

I am not anxious about anything in particular but I’m waking up as if my life sentence is about to be determined and today is the day… horrible feeling.

Does this mean the HRT needs to increase?

I’m on conti patches (the combo ones).

Any ideas? Or is it something else! Maybe the HRT is a red herring.

Thank you.

Anyone?

If patches are not enough what do you move up to try?

Thank you

There are many types of hrt and many brands of patches.
Some women find they don't absorb well from certain patches.

What is the dose of estrogen in your patch? Which one is it?

If you are in peri you ought not to be on a combination patch. You should be on a sequential regime that is estrogen daily and esrtogen + progestogen 12 days per cycle (in the patch.)

Yes you need an increase; the equivalent of one extra pump, so likely if you're on 50mg patches you need 75mg. It's a classic time to need an increase.

Yes I’m on evorel Sequi. They’ve just stopped functioning all of a sudden.

Is it? Ah! I know my GP is issuing it to me every three months and I have to check in with him how it’s going. I’ll run it by him next time. Good to know! Thank you.

@JinglingHellsBells the patches are Evorel Sequi, I change patch type every two weeks which is why I called it “combo” Smile and have confused you!

The patches for Peri-m. Technically the right patches but the horrible symptoms are back. Or at least the lead symptom is.

Ok, got you now!

Yes, the 2nd part of the month is combined but the first part is just estrogen.

I don't know off hand what dose is in that patch (assume there are various ones available) so ask for a higher dose.

The first few months on HRT are really a 'trial' and it's quite common to have to adjust the dose.

Thanks Smile

And now… it’s settled again … I think I’ll ride it out with the three months prescription I’ve collected and review it all with the GP when I need to request more. I’ll have a bigger picture then.

Thank you!
