Sore on my cervix

Just looking for some reassurance really. I went to the doctors last week as I had some vaginal bleeding outside of my period. Not much at all lasted a day or so but have been suffering continuous period like pain and lower back ache. The doctor examined me and said she could see a small sore on my cervix or it could be an erosion. She said it didn't look cancerous but she would refer me to a gynaecologist which could take a few months for an appointment. She has also referred me for a ultrasound. I've been with the same partner for 6 years but she took some swabs and an STI test which have all come back negative. I've never had anything on my cervix before so I'm now panicking. Has anybody had anything similar?

Yes, I've had a couple of cervical erosion in my late 20's and 30's. It was treated by cantering and never reoccured. It's really nothing to worry about.

If it is a cervical erosion it's got nothing to do with sexual health. My husband and I have only had sex with each other and suffered from them. I believe that they are cells from the lining of the womb migrating to the cervix, but haven't checked that out.

Thank you for replying :) I was more worrying incase it's not an erosion and what could possible cause a sore to appear on my cervix. Xx

I'm not to worried if it is an erosion I was more worried in case it's a sore and what causes them xx

A few months isn't ideal. Was your GP not concerned with the bleeding outside your period? Do you bleed after sex?

Appin · 20/03/2022 22:23

Sorry, that was a bit alarming! I'm sure all will be fine.

This is the second time now I've had bleeding outside my period the first time was last April which went by itself and it didn't occur again until last month. I have no bleeding after sex but sex can be painful at certain times in the month. The doctor wasn't too concerned as I'd had a smear 18 months ago which was all okay

I can't help there. The most likely cause is a CE. I don't remember having any particular tests, but it was at least 25 years ago now. I think they just did a visual check and treated.

My symptoms were bleeding after sex.

That's good about your last smear.

Crumpledtoad · 20/03/2022 22:29

Are you on the pill? Some types are known to cause erosion.
