Mirena coil - is this normal?

I had the Mirena fitted about 3 years ago. my periods stopped pretty much straight away - all good.
Then in august last year my periods started again, very light and no bad cramps etc but regular cycles.
My last period was early January, in Feb when it was due i had a week of severe cramps and generally feeling quite ill but no period arrived. I tried to get a drs appointment but it was impossible, I called bardoc who said as I didn't have a temperature it wasn't an emergency and couldn't see me. I felt better after a week or so.
I was then due again last week but still no period. I don't know if I should be worried, or if the 4 months of periods was just a blip? can that happen? I can still feel the strings just about, they seem to have curled up but definitely still there. Has anyone had a similar experience?

That was my only thought sorry can't be more help!

Have you taken a pregnancy test? I know a few people that have gotten pregnant with the coil in so worth a test to rule that out.

I don't have personal experience with it really but from people I know that do, I think it can be quite common for bleeding to come and go, sometimes having periods and sometimes not other months.

Do you have a sexual health clinic near you? They would be able to help

I've ordered some tests they should be here tomorrow, i'll try the sexual health clinic. thank you

My Mirena had moved and dug in, which caused heavy bleeding.

I have a MIrena and I started getting periods again after the vaccine.

I know someone who's merina coil moved out of her uterus up into the area under her right boob, twice! Definitely do a pregnancy test, can you feel if the threads are still in place?

Usualusername · 08/03/2022 14:37

Yes I can still feel the threads, they seem to have curled up though so I can’t tell if they are shorter than usual…
