Smear test very painful?

Anyone else find smear tests very painful?

I know I definitely need to get it done, but the last time I went the nurse couldn't continue because I was in so much pain! I want to get my smear test but I can't get pass the pain!

I feel like a complete wimp and I don't know why I find it painful, but every time I try and speak to a nurse or GP about it they just seem to think I'm over exaggerating and I should be able to get my smear no problem!

Does anyone find it painful? And is there anything I can do to make it easier? (I've tried to relax but it just doesn't work).

I've a really low pain threshold and normally squim and cry. I literally count down the 3 years..I'm due soon and the anxiety is setting in. They always use a smaller thing to open me..last time I was made to feel like a baby. I'm not sure if they would give you a mild sedative

Speculum not a thing. I find the pain unbearable

No advice OP but since I've turned mid 40s I can't tolerate the pain, I won't be having more - luckily was HPV neg on last one and am single so my risk is low. It's just not doable for me.

Ask to insert the speculum yourself. Or exhale as they are going it. You can't clench abs exhale at same time. Make fists abs wedge under your bum to raise your pelvis. May help

Sorry to hear you're also in pain with a smear test! Yes! I feel they treat me the same, I think because I have had a baby as well that I should be fine but I didn't deliver I had a c-section! I also find the smaller speculum also hurts!

I'm glad it came back negative! You'll be glad you don't have to get another one!

I didn't know that was an option that you could insert it yourself! I will definitely try those tips and see if it makes a difference!
