First and unexpected flood, should I be worried?

Hi Ladies

Bit of background, I'm 38 and periods have never been especially heavy. Tends to be a day of spotting, 2 days of significant flow (but still only requiring a change of san-pro every 6-8 hours) and then tails off over 2-3 days. The last 18 months we haven't been using contraception so I've been more aware of my pattern, and having natural periods after years of the pill.

Tonight (24 hours after start of significant flow) I got up to go to the kitchen and felt a flood. Went to the bathroom and created a crime scene Blush Pants and bath mat now in the wash. I had changed a super tampon a few hours previously and haven't been at all active since.

This has never happened before. Last month was a bit heavier and more clotty than usual but not on this scale. Should I be concerned or see what next month brings before panicking?

Thanks in advance.

This is how my peri menopause started.

I would see your GP re this matter and request a referral to a gynaecologist. You should not have to put up with flooding et and it’s not normal.

I started with this at 35. I’d been breastfeeding and when I stopped that my periods got very heavy/floody. After about 3 of these I called the GP who took it seriously and I had a pelvic exam, smear (was due one then anyway), bloods to check thyroid, and and ultrasound to check for fibroids etc. All these were clear so I ended up with a Mirena fitted. A friend the same age did have fibroids that were causing hers.

Definitely speak to the GP Smile

Thanks Ladies. I'm due a smear anyway so will get it booked and bring it up then.
