I'm 50. My periods have been heavy/light on and off the last few months, so I'm thinking maybe peri-menopause?

Anyway, this one has lasted ten days. For the last few days the blood is quite dark - you knw how it can go bronw at the end of a period? I have a dull ache in my tummy today on day 10. No other symptoms. Does this sound normal, or should I contact my GP?

If it isn't normal for you and you are concerned call the GP

Thanks. Will do. I was just wondering if this is normal for menopause.

I would say normal for peri, but any changes or concerns should be checked really.
How about seeing what happens next period, see if it’s the same. That’s what I’d do personally.

LizziesTwin · 21/02/2022 07:22

Write down what has happened this time, dates, colour etc and then if it happens again and you need to go to the doctor you’ll be able to tell them accurately what happened.

Good plan, thanks. How long should I let it go on for this time?!

I made an appt after mine went on for 31 days, by the time I got an appt I’d had another one which was incredibly heavy. GP sent me for scans straight away.

I declined a mirena & had an endometrial ablation instead. I am v sensitive to hormones & didn’t want the risk of not getting on with a mirena.
