Proctalgia followed by terrible period type pain.

Last week whilst on a night shift at work I was on my break lying down and I got the most intense stabbing pain in rectum that lasted about 10 mins. It took my breath away and I wanted to cry it was so bad. I went to the loo thinking I needed to poo but nothing there. The pain went but still felt aches. 2 days later I got a discharge brownish/black sludge. I thought it was a period. Though I have the Mirena and don't get periods. Since then I've had awful period like pain that spreads to back passage. Cramping and feeling there is something in rectum. I'm wondering if the Proctalgia spasm has displaced my mirena. I thought I could feel something plastic like on examination it doesn't feel like threads. Pain is not going away. I phoned 111 and they said I probably need a scan. Not phoned GP yet due to dread of phone queue. Any thoughts/advice/experience of this? I'd be very grateful. I'm age 50. Also on HRT.

Javelin arse?

I had that last night after trying to sleep. Kept me up till 3am.

Sounds like you need to get coil checked though.

I feel your pain I had 10 month of it for days up to 10 a time walked into a and e in the end removed no more pain.

I'm 44 and perimenopausal, I get javelin arse with every miserable period now. Black sludge also a feature, although it tends to follow a few days of torrential flooding - not always, though. They're irregular and very variable now. I don't have a coil, obviously.

You should get checked out, definitely - it can't hurt and might help. I wouldn't be too apprehensive though, it sounds like peri/menopause crap to me.

Thanks for responses. Javelin arse couldn't be more perfect as a description! I need to phone GP. Trouble with having Mirena, which has been fantastic as stopped my flooding periods, you don't know if your post menopause. At 50 I think I'm probably in the thick of it.
