Menopause

I suspect I’m starting to go through menopause but not sure if my symptoms fit

I’m 47, not had children. Symptoms are periods still regular but heavier than previously and heavier flow for 4-5 days rather than 2-3.

Two most difficult symptoms are I’m getting palpitations and I’m getting really awful nausea around and during period.

Had an ecg Tuesday (have had previous issue with ectopic beats and on meds for this. Had no symptoms for 3yrs and then suddenly loads of ectopic beats again). Ecg was normal which is good and I’ve got bloods booked for Tuesday

GP thinks could be menopause but no longer allowed to do hormone bloods if over 45

Any advice?

Could you afford to have the bloods done privately to get an answer?

Hallelujah2020 · 12/02/2022 20:34

Yes I could

That might be one way to see if you can get some answers and then allow you to go back to the doctor to push for more tests if it doesn’t look like you are going through the start of the menopause.

You don't need tests.

menopause now is diagnosed by symptoms.

You have several symptoms of peri menopause

changed periods
Palpitations

and possibly more which you aren't actually recognising.

Have a look at the website of Dr Louise Newson- you have to put in search terms and LOADS of fact sheets, videos and podcasts are there.

Please don't pay to get bloods done. The reason the NHS stopped is because they are so variable during the time of menopause that any result is meaningless. You could have them done twice in one day and get different results.
GPs should now diagnose and prescribe based on symptoms

Go private to a menopause clinic. Worth every single pound.

Yep, echoing pp on bloods.
