Really itchy nipple (I’m not pregnant)

Hi,

For just over a week, one of my nipples has been really itchy. It’s really bothering me. I had some left over Dakacort cream which I applied to it as I wondered if it was a fungal infection or maybe thrush and the itching seemed to stop for a few days. However today it’s returned and seems worse than before. I’ve also noticed that it looks slight dark and the skin texture looks different (the little bumps look bigger in some areas) - I wonder if it’s from where I’ve been itching it. It’s only the very tip that’s affected.

Im hoping it’s something like thrush or a fungal infection but of course my mind keeps going to cancer and I’ve read briefly about pagets disease which has got me worried. There is a history of breast cancer on my dad’s side of the family.

Im going to either speak to a chemist or get a call with my gp tomorrow but in the mean time I’m feeling worried about the possibility that it might be something nasty.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Could be hormonal changes? Are you due on?

No I don’t think so. I’m in my early 40s and have never experienced anything like this before. Plus it’s started so suddenly. I have been layering up with the clothes I wear during the day to avoid putting the heating on so wonder if it’s caused thrush.
