Random blood between periods

Just wondering if anyone has had this. I'm 40. Always had irregular periods and had an op in 2019 for endometriosis on my ovaries (chocolate cysts). My periods were regular after that but short. Since I've had each Covid vaccination and had Covid twice i seem to be getting dark blood/discharge about a week or two after my period. Is it my age? Will it stop or do I need to make a doctors appointment. I did once try but I was in a massive queue and felt embarrassed about explaining it all. Thanks

To add it's only on my knickers and when I wipe, not bad enough for a pad

I've had spotting during a few cycles - 2 years ago, and then in recent months. Both times I spoke to gp and they did investigate so worth speaking to gp. They didn't identify a cause on gynae scan or colposcopy and I now feel less concerned when it happens (incidently my last extended period of spotting coincided with having covid...)

Thanks @piglets29. I am going to give it a couple more cycles then call the doctor just to be sure. It's crazy in some countries it's commonplace to have a regular gynaecologist

Speak to the GP now. There is nothing to be gained from waiting IMO. They will give you an ultrasound and you may get some answers.

I’m slightly older but have had this since the same age. I had investigations and they found no obvious cause. Mine started pre pandemic.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 11/02/2022 12:49

Thanks both sorry to hear you have it too @stickysellotape
I am going to see if I can get an appointment. I had a smear in 2020 which was clear but the one I had before that showed suspect cells from hpv. That had gone in my next smear though.

I came on here thinking about starting a thread like this. I ovulated yesterday I think, and there's smears of brown blood this evening.

I'm on iron pills which have made me somewhat bloated on a daily basis for a good few months now so would have no idea if I'm bloated anyway.

The nurse wasn't able to do my smear last time or the time before, it hurt too much and she gave up, so I don't quite know what to do.

My gynaecologist last saw me at 45 but I went as I had odd spotting between periods (which were like clockwork btw) and she showed me a graph of progesterone production after the age of 40 and it just plummets really which is one of the factors heading towards, ultimately, menopause. This may be worth considering so get to your GP and get bloods taken.
You have a right to have your body taken seriously and cared for by the health service. Prioritise yourself OP!

How are you doing OP?

I'm still seeing brown blood and discharge, and have started to feel a bit odd with a temperature with a really hot back overnight. Waiting on a call back from 111 now.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 13/02/2022 10:39

@tackling oh no I hope you're ok. I'm doing fine thanks. I have noticed a bit of what feels like period pain with the blood. Had a little bit yesterday. Let us know how you are?

Thanks - they've called back and suggested a GP appointment as soon as possible, and getting a smear test and tests for thyroid and diabetes too.

Just having painkillers and taking it easy with the temperature for now, hopefully it'll fix itself soon!

Hi everyone so I posted this in February. Went for the bloods. GP said probably nothing to worry about and they'd get in contact. No one did but I thought I'll just ring them anyway. Receptionist has said that the gp wants to speak to me and someone should have called me. Telephone appointment tomorrow now and I'm really scared. Not had the spotting last month and this month my period is late. I do have anxiety so now I'm bricking it Sad

Try not to panic or could be for lots of things that are not serious.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 31/03/2022 18:15

@hopeishere I know and thank you. It's just I worry about the worst Sad

Hi @teaandtoastwithmarmite
Did you get any answers x

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 03/04/2022 10:14

Hi @knivesandspoons sorry I meant to come back. GP said everything fine except the blood test ca125 my ovarian one was a bit high. Of course I googled it and it can be a sign of cancer but also can be because of endometriosis which I have. He said he wanted to repeat it but wish he'd realised I had endo. It's all in my notes. He said it's likely that but he wants me to re do it.

Period turned up as well. Really painful and heavy

Hi there. Posting an update if it helps anyone. Had blood tests. Still raised but same as before. GP referred me for scan after I mentioned pain on one side. Bad result today and I apparently have multiple ovarian cysts so being referred.
