Ugly before period

Does anyone else feel generally rubbish about themselves during PMS? AF is due over the next few days and I always notice the week leading up to her joyous arrival my self esteem is through the floor! My skin is awful, I feel like I've put on about 10 stone from the constantly snacking, my hair gets greasier and I just feel generally awful.

I just find myself looking in the mirror waiting for it to crack! Whereas any other time I'm fairly confident (after a bit of makeup and hair TLC of course)

Anyone else or just me?x

Yes and even my hair somehow looks worse just before my period, like suddenly out of control. I put it down to hormones and try to ignore it!

Pootlepoodle · 02/02/2022 13:11

Oh completely! Bloating all over, skin rubbish, hair awful and generally feel crap. Then period, ovulation, feel great!

princesspenny · 02/02/2022 13:15

It's not just you 💔

rightsideoftheroad · 02/02/2022 13:18

Yup. I genuinely look awful, once someone at work asked if I was unwell

meow1989 · 02/02/2022 13:18

Yup, bloating, spots (always the oddhuge red scabby ones ) and a general despondency about shaving legs/making hair nice etc.i am currently in this state. Flowers

halfpasteleven · 02/02/2022 13:21

Definitely can identify with this, especially the greasy hair and spots! Not a good look!

Snoopsnoggysnog · 02/02/2022 13:22

Yes same here but on the upside you’re supposed to look amazing around ovulation so swings and roundabouts Grin

avocadotofu · 02/02/2022 13:22

Yes definitely it's horrible!

SilverHairedCat · 02/02/2022 13:22

Have a look at PMD and PNDD - this level of self hatred is not really normal, and if it is coming and going with your cycle, it is probably linked.

Yup. My skin goes terrible just before my period as does my hair I definitely feel ugly during that few days.

Mol1628 · 02/02/2022 13:23

Yes! I look fatter. Spotty. My hair is greasy just a few hours after washing it. I also question all my life choices 🤣 I’m usually ok after a couple of days !

SwissCheeseRentedChildren · 02/02/2022 13:32

Always had an Ugly Day right before my period. Ugh.

SunshineOnKeith · 02/02/2022 13:46

I know AF means period - but what does it actually stand for please? It's a MN acronym that's always eluded me

SilverHairedCat · 02/02/2022 13:47

@SunshineOnKeith "Aunt Flo" - an incredibly outdated pseudonym for period, as though its a dirty word.

springblossom22 · 02/02/2022 13:59

Oh thank you everyone! Sorry to hear we're all feeling like this, but glad I'm not alone! I'll stop apologising to DH for looking like I've just crawled out from under a bridge 😂

@SilverHairedCat thank you for the link, it was interesting to read about the relation! Also, I definitely don't think period is "dirty", and just prefer to use AF from time to time x

Yep. Bloating, spots, dull, dry skin, dry yet greasy hair. I'm reasonably happy with how Iook most of the time but the days before and during my period are not flattering.

eurochick · 02/02/2022 14:56

It's nature. Procreation only needs us to be hot up to ovulation is complete.

rightsideoftheroad · 02/02/2022 15:51

I find a bit of fake tan to the face helps a bit.

Don't - I'm in peri now! I'm embracing the invisibility.

Thanks. Yeah, I'd never have thought of that!
