Cystoscopy

I'm due to have a cystoscopy this coming Monday. Apparently it's now done without a General Anaesthetic. I have had a couple previously and they were bad enough afterwards. Can anyone tell me if they are really bad with just a local and how long does it take. I am absolutely dreading it.

I was dreading it but it was fine. Most of it was no worse than a smear. They removed a polyp which took a few minutes and was awful. I wish I’d told them to stop as apparently if you do that they’ll re book and give you anesthetic. However, it was ok, and no real pain after. Nothing worse than a period and mine are manageable.
I did get a uti but then I’m prone to them.

Just to check, do you mean cystoscopy (camera into bladder) or hysteroscopy (camera into womb)?

I've worked in both clinics and have experienced a cystoscopy personally.
Cystoscopy is honestly fine, they'll put some local anaesthetic gel in the entrance to your urethra, then put the camera in. It feels weird and a little uncomfortable but you'll honestly be fine.

Hysteroscopy can vary depending on your pain threshold. They will medicate you before the procedure with pain killers, and there should be gas and air in the room if you require it. And they'll inject some local anaesthetic into your cervix.
Some ladies don't even flinch, others find it a little difficult to tollerate. Remember you're in charge. They'll stop if you want them to, you can ask them to pause for a second to catch your breath but you will have plenty of support during the procedure.

I just realised you've had your procedure now! I hope it went OK and you were well looked after whichever it was!
