I'm 25 years old, in generally healthy never really had anything wrong with me. These last 5 month I have been bleeding between my periods, not heavy but it's in my pants so I wear a thin panty liner and there when I wipe (sorry TMI)
I get pain around my lower tummy and lower back, the pain isn't bad but is consistent.
I have had a few firings sec but again nothing pain full.
I visited the clinic today and the doctor thinks I could have Pelvic inflammatory disease but isn't 100% sure. I asked the doctor how he thinks I have this as most causes are from STI's. They have checked me and I don't or have never had a sti, again he doesn't know. He has put me on anti biotics for 2 weeks to see if anything changes.
He then advised me if again nothing changes then they would look at putting hun me on contraception for hormonal reasons (which I won't do)

My Nan passed away when she was 39 years old cervical cancer. I had a smear done last august and was HPV positive although they don't want to see me until august this year.
I asked about this today and the doctor advised "if you came to me with these symptoms in 30 years time then we would look down the cancer route and worry"
I'm sorry annoyed, scared and worried. Because of my age they arnt taking me seriously.
From what I know symptoms for PID and cervical cancer are similar.
I'm gonna take these anti biotics and then go back to my gp to ask for another referral, but can I request a smear test before august?

I have a 10 month old baby and I'm just so scared there's something I don't know about.

After the birth of my 2nd child I had the strangest green discharge , bleeding after sex and lower back pain. I was only 22 so had never had a smear but after going to the doctors a few times I paid for a private one it was around £160 so maybe that is an option for you to help put your mind at ease? Mine came back clear , the discharge vanished as soon as my periods returned as I was breastfeeding. I also got an examination and the bleeding was put down to my scar from birth.

Hi OP, it must be hard for you not to panic given your family history. I really hope the antibiotics work. If they don't request a referral to a gynaecologist for a colposcopy. There's lots of info re HPV positive status and smear tests on the Jo's Trust website that might help you. I hope you get this resolved soon. Take care

Thank you - my periods have been very regular since having my son as I didn't breast feed. Although this is what I initially thought it was due to having a baby but every month the bleeding and pain is getting a little worse. Thank you so much I'm definitely going to look into a private one even for my peace of mind

If you're going to push for a referral for anything, it would be a colposcopy. "Smear" tests are just a screening tool for women without symptoms, they're not for investigating symptoms.

emberplum · 20/01/2022 21:31

I'd go to a different doctor. Your symptoms could be plenty of other things. Fibroids, polyps, PCOS, Endometriosis etc etc...Have you had an ultrasound scan? Have they referred you to a gynae specialist?

I came on to say what @draramallama said
Push for an actual exam rather than another smear test

Thank you for this. I'm definitely going to do this.

Thank you, i suppose it's easy to jump to worst case scenario sometimes. I am going to contact my gp as ask for a referral

Hi OP. I don't know if this might shed any light.
But since my 2nd covid vaccine I have been bleeding between periods. Well I can't even tell what is a period and what isn't now.

This has been going on since June.

I went privately and has Ultrasound and bloods and everything came back normal. The vaccine has just messed with my hormones I think.
