Anything that stops clotty periods??

Sorry for the graphic post! For almost a year now my periods have been horribly clotty for the first day of my period. I'm up to date with my smears and no issues there. The clotting seemed to start on the first period after my first covid jab last year although this could just be coincidence. It could be my age (40 this year) or because I stopped breastfeeding a couple of months before. But whatever the reason, it's horrible. The feel of them coming out, the masses of blood on the pad, the threatened leaks - yuk yuk yuk!!! Is there anything that will make them less clotty? I don't really want to go on the pill - dh has had the snip so we don't need it for contraception and I'm wary of mucking around with my hormones. Any natural solutions? Or tips on how to deal with the horribleness??

Menstrual cup? and wear a pad underneath. Maybe even two

I am younger than you and haven't had babies but this is the only thing that helps with my heavy flow

Check that you are not anemic - it’s a vicious circle
I take ginger extract!- makes my periods less heavy
Go and see your GP/gynecologist

Menopause...

That started with me around that age too. I started using a mooncup with a pad as a massive clot will cause leakage so you need the pad to catch it. You need to empty it more frequently to reduce leaking.

A few years of that and my period reduced in duration, but not volume so I had 3 days of emptying the cup every hour! I'm post menopausal now and it's brilliant not having to deal with it.

I've had this more in the last few years and have put it down to peri-menopause and hormonal changes - I'm 47 and it started about 3 years ago. I also used tampons for years and since changing to pads it's more noticeable and heavier. I'm sure there is guidance about clots, but I don't have much advice other than if it is making you feel faint and you are soaking through pads then seek medical advise. I had pads and am looking into alternatives because I hate the way it feels like you.

hate not had.

Are you having bad pain with it too? I used to have really painful periods and was prescribed mefenamic acid which seemed to result in fewer clots as well. I used to hate that feeling like your insides were falling out! My periods are much more manageable since I went on the pill for a few years, although I've not taken it for about 5 or 6 years now, it seemed to settle things down... but I'll be 40 next year so no doubt that will soon change!
