Hi ladies,

I thought I would post and ask for some advise and I know Mumsnet is fabulous for being able to ask all those awkward would never say out loud type of things.. sometimes..

So after DS no4 I suffered a prolapse which has gotten worse over time I've waited over a year so far for surgery (backs up due to covid) I'm not going privet and have my op booked for a few weeks time but I am trying to prepare myself I have some questions and wonder if anyone who's been through this can help, any advise would be great

I've been told I need a front and back wall repair with a possible hysterectomy but this will either happen or not during op depending on what he finds when in there 😬
I am a planner I have 4 kiddies and trying to ensure hubby is well prepared too

Firstly - driving ? How long before you was able to drive again, I've been told 3-6 weeks or when I can preform an emergency stop ... how soon was you comfortable getting into a car to drive?

Is there anything I should have at home in perpetration for this to help me something I maybe am not thinking about?

When was you able to bath?

Have sex again? Or feel comfortable to have sex?

How did the operation change you after ? (Was sex uncomfortable)

Did you look any different down there..?

Was you tighter or narrower? )sorry have to ask)

Did you shave before op? Not sure what to do about that ..

Issues going poo any suggestions or tips that helped afterwards

How long was it before you was able to do simple things housework make a cuppa etc,?

Did you ever have to have a pessary again? I'm praying I never do as I hate it so much

A lot of questions mind is going a little over drive but if I could get any help from anyone who's had this would be amazing

Thank you xx

I've had a hysterectomy, but not prolapse repair. I don't drive.

Bath - 3 weeks
Sex - about 4 months
Discomfort - no, much less than pre-op
Look any different - no
Tightness - no different (I've never had children so never stretched there)
Shave - no, wasn't asked to.
Poo - initially painful, use a mild laxative
Housework - light housework after a few days, gradually increasing
Never had a pessary before or after.

Preparation - try to make sure you're sorted for easy meals you can just shove in microwave (unless you have someone to cook for you).

Hope your op goes well.

Thank you for replying ! Really appreciate it to be honest
I'm dreading it , but it's got to be done,

I love my baths hate the shower that's going to be a disaster perhaps because that's my half hour a day where no one is allowed to bother me (kids)

Wow four months before sex is that because it was too painful? 😫

I'm the same - love my baths - but as well as not being able to immerse the wound, getting in and out of the bath would have been difficult in the early stages of recovery, so a shower is the better option at first.

It was as much being cautious as painful - I didn't want to risk damaging the 'vaginal cuff' which is stitched where the cervix used to be. You might be different, and obviously you can do non-penetrative things pretty much as soon as you want. It doesn't affect your ability to feel pleasure - if, like me, you are in pain and discomfort generally, it will improve that side of things for you.
