Periods in your 40's

I'm mid 40's I stopped taking the pill about four months ago as it stopped my periods and I was having period pains all the time but obviously no period.

My first few periods were ok, 28 day cycles and pretty light.

This month I have had dreadful anxiety in the run up to it starting. I have started 4 days earlier than I should have. I've got awful lower back pain, stomach ache, I feel sick and out of sorts and pretty heavy flow.

Is this the start of my periods going haywire due to Peri menopause?

Yes.

My periods started getting closer together & heavier - sometimes only 2 weeks apart & having to change tampons/towels 2-3 hourly.

Gradually, they have moved further apart & become lighter. Very scanty & light in the last year or two.

Am nearly 50 now & haven't had one for 6 months.

I don't miss them.

I bet the bugger starts again at 11.5 months - just when I think I am done.
