Heavy bleeding on the mini pill

Is this normal? I swapped to a mini pill after 15 years of being on the combined pill (had to swap as was experiencing chronic migraines). Nurse said my periods would gradually stop or at least become very light. I’m on my 4th month now and I’m bleeding regularly like a period and it’s getting heavier and heavier! Also experiencing worse pmt symptoms and period pain than when I was on the combined pill.

Has anyone else had this? Do I need to give it more time? I’m seeing the nurse for a check when I finish my next pack so will ask her too.

Is it a desogestrel based mini pill?
It can cause erratic bleeding or stop periods but you can't really tell in advance which camp you will fall into

The doctor told me before I went on the mini pill that a third of women who go on it will have no periods, a third will carry on as normal, and the other third will have worse periods… I am lucky & fell in the first camp BUT it did take 3/4 months of erratic spotting etc. Might be worth holding out for another month???

Oh b**gger, I hope I'm not in the 3rd camp! This isn't erratic, this is regular as a clock but just much heavier than normal.

I have another pack to get through before my review with the nurse so will see how it goes.

I've already tried a desogestrel pill and it sent me loopy hence trying this one.

Which mini pill is it.
I take Cerazette which is desogestrel.
But I take it continuously which is fantastic as I don't get any bleed.

In 6yrs or so I've had about 2 break thru bleeds. One lasted about a week.
I'm 50 odd tho.

The doctor gave this to me as magic pull. When you read the stats the 2/10 will stop 4/10 have intermittent bleeding and 4/10 normal previous periods. I feel like sold a lie. Mine are much lighter 8m on so that’s something I suppose.

Which pill is it then? There are only a few different types of mini pill and most seem to be desogestrel based

You need to take all mini pills continuously. You only have a break with the combined pill
WillyWonkster · 11/01/2022 11:51

The one I'm on now is Norgeston, a levonorgestrel pill.

The desogestrel-based pill didn't agree with me at all.

I'm inclined to agree with you! My belief (rightly or wrongly but is clearly a common one!) was that your periods mostly stop on the mini pill.

How annoying!

I think the 3 hour window ones are less likely to stop your periods. I tried 2 different ones before ending up on cerazette (desogestrel). One of the others gave me fortnightly periods. They discontinued a few too which is rubbish

dementedpixie · 11/01/2022 12:01

Looks like the only other 3 hour one is Noriday. Not a lot of choice

thesunwillout · 11/01/2022 12:53

I think it's been so long I've been on it that I forgot that!

I was meant to be quoting @dementedpixie. Quotes don't seem to always work on my phone.
