PMT Rage. Does anyone have a solution?

I'm 42,3 kids and have regular periods.

The week run up to my period I have terrible mood swings. Bursts of rage and basically can't stand my H. I'm very intolerant of anyone around me.

It's completely out of character and like a I'm taken over. I'm normally chilled out, positive and very very happy. I don't really want to take a daily dose of antidepressants for it and that's what dr Google has suggested.

Does anyone have anything that works for them?

I suffered with it for a long time abs was eventually referred to the PMT Clinic at the Hospital. They tried Prozac but I was allergic.

The two things that have helped me that they suggested were a calcium supplement and the Mirena Coil.

I went in the pill. I take a 3 monthly cycle one, so only get pèriod 4 times a year. It’s helped a lot

Sepia 1M homeopathic remedy. I used to take it before each period, trying to time it BEFORE I bit either DP or DC heads off! Worked really well for me. Usually took one a day until period started and then forget about it until next episode of head biting, irrational anger etc. My periods were quite erratic, very heavy and a sign that one was incoming was the anger. Hope you find a solution that works for you, it is dreadful, especially with little ones around who don't understand what monster has taken Mum's place.

agnus castus, vitamin b, zinc, magnesium, star flower oil supplements together with daily mindfulness and meditation.

Following with interest. I would say for me, 99/100 times I feel more down than anything else, but I do get rage 1%! Also feel like divorcing dh every month which in turn gets me down as I have a nice one who I want to keep.

Sertaline. I saw people talking about it on here and asked my GP for it. I now get a surprise when my period arrives, as my mood is stable. I think so many people have an aversion to anti-depressants for no good reason. They can be a blessing.

Cannabis

Givemepickles · 08/01/2022 23:25

Agnus castus was quite good for me after about 2 months taking it daily

pompomsgalore · 09/01/2022 06:04

@FrozZen is that sepia m1 from cuttlefish? That's all that comes up when I Google.

@Glenthebattleostrich @Givemepickles
I'm going to try this Angus Castus first.

Then I'll work my way up the other suggestions. Thanks everyone.

Sertraline has also helped me. I still get a bit paranoid pre-menstrually but it's much reduced.

Stuff with tryptophan in can help. Keeping away from caffeine.
But getting to recognize that terrible 0-90 feeling and having family on board and ready to take over while you are stuffed under a duvet with a "medicinal" amount of carbs and alcohol was how I coped.
Post menopausal now and don't miss that part of it!
