Breast cyst

Hi all,

I’ve had a pain in my boob on and off for a few weeks (since mid-cycle at least) and yesterday found an egg sized lump in the middle of my my boob, kind of behind the nipple and and slightly above. I’m 90%sure that if feels cyst like, it moves, it’s painful and appeared from nowhere so I’m sure it’s not sinister!

I’ve had one before in the other one and went through the 2ww and scanning etc so not freaking out as much this time. I’m taking ibruprofen and have a hot water bottle attached to me almost 24/7 which is helping with the pain.

I know I still need to get it checked out and I I’ll once the long weekend is over. However I’m fairly sure it’s hormone related.

My last cyst was cause by being on the pill back to back due to heavy and long periods which turns out my body didn’t like. I switched to mirena and within weeks the cysts disappeared.
It’s 3 years later, I’ve had barely any bleeding except for the first 6 months it took to settle down but recently my period has been coming back heavier. The one at the beginning of December was particularly noticeable - still not as bad as pre-mirena/pill. I think I may have had a period of sorts this week with just vaguely pink when wiping so it’s either on it’s way slowly but surely or that was it but the lump definitely has coincided with the cycle.

I’m not sure what I’m asking, just reassurance of something similar,
Aside from the hot water bottle, what else have people done to reduce breast cysts quite quickly?

Thank you x

Hi, I haven’t had a painful cyst. But I did recently have a cyst that grew quickly.

I’d felt something a few months before, but then it grew quickly.

I had mine drained at the breast clinic, as well as mammogram and ultrasound. The doctor said the cysts are a thing with peri menopause- I’m 42.

Funnily enough, I also have the mirena. Haven’t bled for a good few years, but now it must be wearing off so I get light spotting.

Sorry that I can’t be much help, but I didn’t want to read and run. Can you try paracetamol as well as the ibuprofen for the pain?

Thank you, I am 41 this year so also believe it’s peri-menopausal. Yes will try adding in paracetamol too. Pain has definitely been less than yesterday so I think the hot water bottle is having some kind of effect.

I wish I could remember how long it took for the other one to go down!
